Real World and X-Plane News 7/16/11

Hello X-Plane pilots!  Are you hungry for some news?  I am.  Let's dive in.

  • Anyone looking for a 360 view of the space shuttle cockpit?  This isn't of Atlantis, the shuttle currently in orbit, but it is of Discovery during a recent orbit.  Very interesting!
  • Delta Airlines is considering dropping flights to small cities in many states.  The states possibly effected are Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Most of these flights are old NWA destinations flown by old NWA Saab 340's.  Delta claims that the flights to small cities such as Bemidji, Fargo, etc, are usually not even half full and sometimes empty.
  • On Thursday night, at Boston Logan International airport, two Delta planes were involved in a runway collision.  Flight 266, a 767 headed for Amsterdam, clipped the tail of a CRJ900, ASA Flight 4904 operating in Delta colors.  There was only one human injury reported and no flights were delayed besides the aircraft involved in the incident.  The vertical stab of the CRJ was almost torn off and the 767 suffered wing damage.  Both planes have obviously been removed from service for maintenance and inspections.  Here is a great picture:

  • This fall, a new screening method could expedite boarding for frequent fliers.  Some elite members of Delta and American Airlines frequent flier programs will be given the opportunity to submit personal information to the TSA and bypass heavy screening procedures.  Further details are really up in the air right now.

  • Aerosoft has made known it's intention to serve X-Plane lately and they sure have made some interesting quotes lately.  Read these:
I told you that Aerosoft will support XPlane 10. Mainly because we are not at all sure that Microsoft Flight will be the simulator we all hope it will be and because what we know and what we have seen from X-Plane 10 is simply stunning.

Internally we got some new images that just blow FSX out of the water in graphics, seriously exiting.

Both are comments from the "root admin" of the Aerosoft forums.  Very exciting if you ask me.

  • There is finally some recent news from "Guy", the developer of the payware De Havilland Comet we have all been waiting for.  Check out these screenshots and his website for all the details: http://www.dh-aircraft.co.uk/news/news.html

  • IXEG has been posting tons of of preview images of their 737 Classic Project lately.  I believe that this plane will absolutely redefine aircraft for X-Plane.

That's all for today!  Fly Safe,

Simon B
